Best Derma Rollers in Australia - Candice Swanepoel

Derma rollers are an interesting – and yep, scary – beauty product.
At a glance, the idea of pin-pricking your skin with tiny needles seems
painful and confusing. How can that possibly do your skin any good?
Well, there is a method to the madness.

What is a derma roller?

derma roller is a hand-held device that features hundreds of micro-needles
around the circumference of its roller head. It’s like a mini paint roller with needles.
When rolled over the skin, the needles create micro-injuries that signal to your
body to produce more collagen and elastin to repair the affected area.
And you know what more collagen and elastin means: plumper and tighter skin
and fewer wrinkles! It may also help heal scars (including acne scars).
The concept is the same as the professional version – microneedling, which we
have covered IN FULL over here.

The other way a derma roller works is to help drive all those powerhouse ingredients
in your serums
deeper down into the skin, via those mini punctures
(which act like channels).

Can it help with cellulite or stretch marks?

According to one Redditor, it can – she had some pretty impressive before and after
stretch marks results to share. However, the general consensus is that the needles
on an at-home derma roller aren’t long enough to reach deep below the skin’s
surface to significantly address cellulite and stretch marks.

What about hair growth?

While professional-level microneedling has been used to treat hair loss –
the micro-injuries it creates are thought to boost growth factors and stem cells in
the scalp -, the needles in an at-home device are again too small to penetrate
deeply enough to have an impact.

Do derma rollers work?

We’ll be honest, the jury is still out – and quite divided
(read two sides of the story here!). While great results have been documented
when it comes to professional-grade microneedling, due to the small needles
used for at-home dermarolling, there are some doubts around how much of an
impact it has on encouraging collagen production. The bottom line: there is no
scientific evidence to confirm the effectiveness of these devices, but that’s not
to say we haven’t heard people rave about them! Especially when used prior
to using serums to increase penetration (just make sure you limit use to once
every few weeks – too much dermarolling may cause inflammation).

Is there any downtime involved?

During an in-salon microneedling treatment, there is redness and some bleeding
involved. However, when using at-home derma rollers, since the needles are
smaller (for your safety), it’s less likely you’ll be a blotchy mess post-use and there
should be no blood. That said, we recommend you make it part of your nighttime
skin care routine since your skin does its best repairing work overnight.

Who shouldn’t use one?

If you have highly-sensitive skin, including eczema and psoriasis, this treatment,
albeit gentle, may not be for you. For those using active ingredients in your skin
care routine, such as retinol, you should stop using them about a week prior to
dermarolling, as it may cause your skin to be too reactive. Also, don’t ever use a
derma roller over cystic acne or open pimples, as it can spread the bacteria and
lead to infection.

How to use one on your face

Step #1 / First, cleanse your skin so the surface is clean. Follow with a toner to
rebalance the skin’s pH levels.

Step #2 / Now for your derma facial. Using a light hand, roll the derma roller in a
systematic pattern horizontally over your face, working from the centre outwards.
Give yourself a wide berth around the eye area. Start at your forehead, work your
way down to your cheeks, move on to your chin.

Step #3 / Next, repeat step two, but this time move the derma roller vertically up
and down the face.

Step #4 / Go over the face a third and final time in a diagonal direction.

Step #5 / Follow with your favourite serum. Applying one immediately after
dermarolling will increase its absorption by the skin.

TOP TIP: Avoid using active ingredients like retinol with
your derma roller as it’s likely to cause irritation and
trauma to the skin.

How to clean your derma roller

Now this is important, because if your roller isn’t clean, you’re going to push
bacteria into your skin with every roll and nothing good is going to come from that!
Clean yours after *every* use by soaking it in rubbing alcohol and replace your
device after every 10 uses as the needles will start to blunten.

Does it hurt?

Yes, it can. But for most it’s tolerable (that is, if you even feel any pain at all).
If you have a low pain threshold, you might want to give this treatment a skip.
DO NOT take any aspirin or blood thinners before or immediately after
dermarolling.

How to choose the right derma roller

Given there are needles involved, this is not a time to skimp or purchase without
doing your research. You want quality. Our advice is to go with a brand you
already know and trust. There are also varying needle sizes, with 0.2mm and 0.3mm
being the most popular, and the best choice. Anything bigger and you risk
damaging your skin if you don’t know what you’re doing.

If you’re thinking about trying derma rolling at home, try one of these devices.
We’ve hunted down some of the best derma roller products out right now,
with reviews.

#4 / Nurse Jamie Beauty Stamp

While not technically a ‘roller’, this product uses a stamping (pressing) motion,
rather than rolling over the face. The needles are 0.2mm. “The Beauty Stamp
may very well be the best investment anyone can make,” said creator of the tool
and founder of Nurse Jamie, Jamie Sherrill in an interview with W magazine.
“A small pad features a cross section of micro needles in a grid that helps with
micro exfoliation, opens channels for product delivery and efficacy and aids in
the body process of collagen and elastin production. It is my triple threat.”

The review: “Love this stamping tool. I am obsessed! I use It once a week and I
am a true believer in a controlled healing response. It is similar yet a more
superficial version of microneedling. I believe way better than a roller, because
it enters the skin at a straight angle not a 45 degree like a roller would enter
and exit at. I get a [lot] of compliments after using it- the day of and after!”

The review: I have been using this product a couple times a week for the past
two weeks and so far, I’ve been really happy with this product. I purchased the
roller to help with my acne scarring as I had heard using a derma roller can help
to heal the scars quicker. Although I haven’t been using this product for very long,
I have already seen results. The derma roller doe

The Benefits Of Microneedling Your Skin: How To Use A Derma-Roller

It’s not as scary as it seems – by Jessica Bosco

·       24 AUG2018

It’s the multi-tasking beauty treatment that can target everything from blemishes and dull skin to acne scarring, stretch marks and even hair loss – all without going under the knife. But what exactly is derma-rolling and how can you do it yourself at home?

What is Derma-Rolling?

Derma-Rolling or microneedling has been around since the mid-90s but it has gained serious traction over the last few years (albeit in part thanks to some pretty intense YouTube videos) but also due to major advancements in the technology which means you can now do it yourself at home.

Derma-rolling involves the use of micro-needles which makes microscopic incisions in the skin as “trauma” which then causes the skin to go into “repair mode” by stimulating collagen production. Sounds pretty intense, but it’s actually not as scary as you think.

Following the treatment, the skin’s absorption is amplified which means your products will work even harder for you.

What is a Derma-roller?

A Derma-roller is, you guessed it, the tool used to perform Derma-rolling or microneedling. Once only performed by professionals in a salon, these days there are numerous tools on the market which means you can DIY at home.

Who should be using a derma-roller?

Derma-rolling is recommended for most skin types however those with highly-sensitive skin or breakouts should avoid the treatment.

“We do not recommend using the roller on highly sensitive skin or broken out skin,” says Dalia Stoddard, Vice President Product Development Rodan + Fields. “This could potentially cause more irritation on an already irritated area.”

Are there different types of Derma-rollers or does one work for all skin types?

Derma-rollers are suitable for all skin types (except, as mentioned above, those sensitive or broken out skin should not use them).

What results can you expect from Derma-rolling?

“This tool helps to remove dull, dead skin cells through exfoliation, leaving the surface of the skin smoother and more refined,” says Stoddard. “It maximizes the effectiveness of the products used with it for visibly refined tone, texture and firmness.”

Are all derma-rollers created equal? What should you be looking out for when buying one?

Not all derma-rollers are created equal.

“If you are looking for an exfoliating derma-roller, what is most important is the quality of the tips and the smoothness of the roll over the skin. Our AMP MD has been designed with laser cut tips to ensure quality and precision and has been ergonomically designed to ensure a smooth roll over the skin,” says Stoddard.

Where and how should you use a Derma-roller?

For best results, Stoddard recommends using a Derma-roller three times a week at night after applying your toner and then once you’ve tested the product a few times and your skin’s reaction to it, you can increase the frequency to nightly.

“Roll with moderate, comfortable pressure over the entire face and neck with 4-10 passes,” says Stoddard. “For best results, divide the face into sections (forehead, right side, left side, chin, and neck) and treat each section before continuing to the next.

“We recommend following with our Intensive Renewing Serum – take one of the capsules and smooth the serum slowly onto skin. It feels like magic!”

Is Derma-Rolling safe for pregnant and/or breastfeeding women?

While Derma-rolling is generally considered to be safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, however hormonal changes in the body during these times can cause skin to be extra sensitive to caution is recommended.

Stoddard says Derma-rolling with the AMP-MD roller is safe for all users however she recommended speaking with your doctor before undergoing any new treatment or using any new products as each pregnancy is unique.

Is there anything else I need to know before trying Derma-rolling at home?

Proper storage of your derma-roller is critical to ensure hygiene and prevent bacteria from forming. Most rollers will come with a cap, so ensure this is sealed after each use.

“This is to protect the micro-exfoliating tips from the wear and tear of everyday use,” adds Stoddard.

Skin Needling 101: All The Facts You Want To Know

 Joanna Fleming

Also known as micro-needling, dermarolling or collagen induction therapy – skin needling involves the process of (you guessed it) rolling tiny needles over your face. I know that sounds terrifying but it has amazing anti-ageing and rejuvenation benefits.

Skin needling works by very lightly puncturing the surface of the skin to send the skin into repair, encouraging collagen and elastin production. This also allows active topical ingredients to better penetrate the skin, giving you enhanced results from your skincare products.

You can expect a reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and scarring, as well as an overall improvement in skin texture without the downtime of laser treatment or peels.

HOW DO I USE MY ROLLER?

Being careful not to be too heavy-handed, roll the tool in a back and forth motion (what we call ‘passes’) over small sections of skin at a time in a horizontal fashion. Repeat this process in a vertical pattern, then diagonally.

1. Cleanse the skin thoroughly and pat dry

2. Apply a correcting, hydrating or anti-ageing serum first for more sensitive skin

3. For more active delivery, follow the rolling technique by applying your serum

4. Follow with your preferred moisturiser

5. Clean your roller attachment with alcohol in the provided sterilising tray

WHICH TOOL SHOULD I USE?

Lonvitalite’s Microneedle Derma Roller Face & Body Kit comes with four separate removable titanium heads of varying needle sizes for both the face & body. So which attachment do you use for each area?

1.5MM ROLLER: BODY

– Improves skin texture & tone while improving elasticity

– Can reduce the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks & scarring

– Encourages cell renewal for more youthful skin

*not suitable for use on the face

0.5MM ROLLER: FACE

– Can treat pigmentation, acne scarring & signs of ageing

– Skin needling can target congestion & enlarged pores

– Encourages collagen & elastin production

0.3MM ROLLER: EYES & LIPS

– Improves dehydration, dark circles & fine lines around the eyes

– Encourages plumper, fuller-looking lips

– Treats fine lines & loss of elasticity around the mouth

0.25MM DERMASTAMP: SPOT TREATMENT

– Targets small problematic areas you want to focus on

– Ideal for treating scars or patches of pigmentation

– Uses a stamping motion instead of rolling

FAQS:

Is it painful?

Nope, not at all. You’ll experience a prickling sensation as your run the roller over your skin, but you are in control of how heavy-handed you are, so if you’re finding it uncomfortable, just be a little gentler. At-home needling tools should not make your skin bleed.

Which serums/creams should I use with it?

For beginners, I’d recommend starting with a hydrating serum like Skinceuticals H.A Intensifier, and as your skin adapts and becomes more tolerant of the needling process, you can introduce products like The Ordinary Buffet and Dermalogica Biolumin-C. For the body, I’d recommend using asap’s cellulite and skin firming treatment after needling.

How often should I do it?

You can use your skin needling tool daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly – whatever frequency your skin tolerates and responds to best. I’d recommend starting off at once a fortnight with a gentle hydrating serum to build up your skin’s tolerance before you start using it more frequently and with stronger actives.

Gold

Gold in skincare feels luxe. It’s super fancy, and right now it’s popping up all over the place. Although does it actually do anything? You see, gold has a long history attached to it and historians have long maintained that civilisations such as those in ancient Egypt (yes Cleopatra was a fan), Rome and China, thought gold carried medicinal properties. Which is why it’s often been used to treat a variety of skin conditions and body ailments.

Tony Huang, Brand Manager of Japanese skincare brand SASSOU Japan also told me that the ions present in pure gold “makes it a superb heat conducting metal”. Which is why when you apply it to the skin’s surface it can draw heat, stimulate blood circulation and help rejuvenate tired skin cells – and  basically make you look younger and brighter.

“With similar qualities found in certain Chinese herbal medicines that help with healing and recovery, gold has the power to magnify the effects of skincare ingredients by targeting and awakening weakened structures in the skin. Studies (more here) also show there is a similarity in the wavelengths at which negative ions are released, allowing gold to enhance particle circulation in the body and reinvigorate cellular bio‐electric currents which naturally weaken as a result of ageing.”

Therefore, there could be method behind the madness. Plus there’s more to adding a little gold to skincare than meets the eye, because it has anti-inflammatory properties and is an antioxidant too. Tony adds that if you do want to include gold in your skincare routine some of the benefits you’d see could include:

  • A reduction in acne and skin allergies
  • Increased skin cell metabolism and secretion of toxins
  • A reduction in the appearance of fines lines, blemishes, wrinkles and dark spots
  • Improved skin hydration and moisture retention
  • A reduction in collagen depletion
  • Increased cell renewal for a healthy, luminous glow
  • A reduction in inflammation and
  • Improved elasticity due to the activation of the body’s basal cells.

Which is why it’s often used in anti-ageing products.

Although WARNING: because when shopping for skincare with a hint of gold you can’t just run out and buy any old thing. The trick to possibly gaining some of these benefits is that the products need to say they’re formulated with 22-24k gold – and nothing less.

Why?

Well, because 22-24k gold is the best type of gold to be safely absorbed by the skin, meaning it’s relatively harmless.“Gold leaf with a smaller carat value has more impurities, is less safe and sometimes contains copper, which can be toxic in high doses. When selecting products with gold leaf, make sure to get gold that is as pure as possible. This means it should be 22‐24 carats,” Tony tells me.

Another reason I’m a fan of gold is that anybody can add it into their skincare routine as it’s safe for all skin types and complexions. I’ve actually been using products with gold in them for years and have always loved how brighter and firmer they leave my skin feeling. So let’s chat through a few of my favourites below.

The Peter Thomas Roth 24k gold line has a cult following. So if you haven’t tried it, you should. I’m currently obsessed with the 24k Gold Pure Luxury Lift and Firm Cream – $60.00 which acts as a highlighter and makes your skin look even and glowy. I just apply it under my BB cream in the morning although I’d probably also wear it on it’s own. It reminds me of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector – but with added benefits. The 24k Gold Mask – $108.00 from this range is amazing too. I used to use it during my third trimester to help my face look like I wasn’t stressed out and emotional. Then continued to use it once Amina was born to help pep up my face/make it look like I’d had sleep.

Sassou Japan’s Gold Shimmering Essence – $200 is pricey but it’s filled with plant based collagens and hyaluronic acids – in fact all of the ingredients in this product are next level. It doesn’t really feel like an essence either… and is more like a serum. After cleansing and toning I apply it and it instantly hydrates and brightens my skin without leaving any residue and makes it easy for other products to be applied on top. Also, I sometimes I just use this instead of a toner.

And the Lonvitalite 24k Gold and Collagen Eye Masks – $35.00 (pk 6) are so bomb, which is why I only save these for special occasions. However, they’re the best at prepping your eye area before a big event. Also, celebs like Jessica Alba and Rose Huntington-Whiteley are fans …so if these are good enough for them! Honestly though, they’re just small patches you whack on under your eye that are filled with collagen and gold to help plump you up, add hydration and leave you looking a lot brighter than before. They’re also super thick so they won’t fall down your face. The Lonvitalite Collagen and Gold Lip Masks – $35.00 (pk 6) are fun to use too – but a little more fiddly. You’re meant to leave them on for 20 minutes, but it feels slightly awkward wearing them and you can’t talk. Although your lips do end up super plumped up following they’re use. I’ve loved using these through winter to beat dry/scaly lips.

Anyway, whether you’re a fan of the gold trend or not, the moral of this post is that you shouldn’t run out and buy any old product just because it has gold in it. Make sure you check the ingredients label first. Especially if it’s overly priced – which many of them are. However, quality products do actually provide some anti-ageing benefits to the skin. So hopefully you find something that works for you!

8 Reasons You Should Start Putting Green Tea On Your Face

Green tea is one of the healthiest things you can imbibe. This ancient Asian brew can increase your memory and concentration, boost energy levels, improve immunity, and so much more.

When it comes to skin health, drinking green tea has been found to delay aging, protect the skin from UV rays, improve skin tone, and reduce acne.

Amazingly, applying green tea topically to the skin can also provide a myriad of health benefits!

Keep reading to find out why you should add green tea to your daily skin care routine.

1. Antibacterial and Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and other properties which can fight inflammation and bacteria.

In a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Dermatology, it was suggested that, based on several studies, ‘green teas possess anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic potential, which can be exploited against a variety of skin disorders’.

The researchers also go on to say that ‘supplementation of skin care products with green tea may have a profound impact on various skin disorders in the years to come.’

2. Fight the Signs of Aging

Antioxidants are our most powerful weapon in the fight against aging, with a certain class of antioxidants – known as catechins – being especially potent. In particular, the catechin EGCG is especially beneficial, and makes up a large percentage of the catechins in green tea.

EGCG has been found in research to reactivate dying skin cells! While these benefits are limited to the outer layer of skin (as the tea’s properties aren’t absorbed beyond that), the research suggests that these benefits are significant.

Other antioxidants in the tea help prevent free radical damage, and encourage healing of cells – all of which fight signs of premature aging like age spots, wrinkles, and sun damage.

3. Treat Oily Skin

Tannins in green tea act as an astringent which shrink pores. The tea also helps to reduce the production of sebum (the skin’s natural oil) by the glands in each pore. This makes it a much better solution than harsh conventional treatments for those with oily skin, which just work by removing excess oil, rather than by reducing production.

In fact, one study showed a 70% reduction in sebum production after participants used a product containing 3% green tea extract for eight weeks.

4. Eliminate Acne and Blackheads

Green tea used topically has also been shown in at least three studies to treat mild to moderate acne, with each study showing over a 50% improvement in symptoms during the research period.

In one of the studies, when a 2% green tea lotion was applied twice daily for 6 weeks, participants enjoyed a 58% reduction in their total lesions, and a 39% decrease in the severity of their pimples.

Of course, the tea’s antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and astringent properties all help to fight both acne and blackheads when applied topically, making it a safe and cost-effective alternative to other skin treatments.

Learn more about natural ways to cleanse away blackheads in this great article: 8 Quick Natural Remedies For Blackheads!

5. A Gentle Exfoliator

Remove dead skin cells (and rejuvenate the dying ones!) by utilizing the slightly abrasive texture of dry green tea leaves. This fantastic exfoliator will also help to remove excess oil and pollutants, exposing the cleansed and renewed skin underneath.

A homemade green tea exfoliator is also a great alternative to store bought products, many of which contain tiny plastic pellets called microbeads, which are wreaking havoc on the environment. An estimated 19 tons of microbeads are discharged annually into New York’s waterways alone!

6. Added Sun Protection

Drinking green tea has been shown in several scientific studies to protect the skin and neutralize the damage done by exposure to UV rays.

According to one small study, the equivalent of two cups of green tea a day can reduce both the inflammation and skin redness associated with sun exposure. The researchers suggest that green tea exerts ‘protection against sunburn inflammation and potentially longer-term UVR-mediated damage’.

Other research has shown that a topically applied catechin-rich emulsion exerted a protective effect on UV-exposed skin.

Green tea isn’t the only food which will naturally increase your skin’s UV resistance.  Learn more with these 15 Ways To Naturally Increase Your Skin’s UV Resistance!

7. Enjoy its Energizing Scent

Wake yourself up in the morning by splashing some tea infused toner on your face, or applying a green tea-rich body wash in the shower.

Many people enjoy the uplifting and energizing effects of green tea’s aroma. Surprisingly, others find it is the perfect addition to their night time bath, as the scent relaxes and soothes!

8. Reduce Eye Puffiness

Swollen and puffy eyes, or dark circles underneath, indicate fatigue and a lack of sleep. When you don’t have time to take a power nap, place a couple of cool tea bags or cotton balls dipped in cold brewed tea over your eyes and relax for five minutes.

The antioxidants and tannins in the tea help shrink blood vessels around the delicate eye area, alleviating swelling and puffiness.

Green Tea Isn’t Just For Skin – Oral Hygiene and Hair Health Benefits Too!

As you can see, there are so many reasons to use green tea to gain a glowing complexion. But green tea has other beauty uses too!

To complement your newly rejuvenated skin, why not add green tea to your hair care routine? The antioxidant EGCG found in green tea has also been proven to stimulate hair growth. A tea rinse also helps kill microbes that may cause dandruff, and will give your mane a glossy sheen.

‘Jet lag got me good. Pre shoot prep with my favorite @lonvitalite 24k gold + collagen eye patches. Savior [sic],’ the natural beauty wrote on Tuesday.

But Holtznagel isn’t the only celebrity to try out the unique patches, with Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and countless beauty bloggers also praising the quirky masks.

While the sparkling beauty products sound excessive, the 24 karat gold creations are just $32 for a pack of six… considerably cheaper than many other face masks on the market.

Jill Zarin’s 5th Annual Lux Luncheon

Jill Zarin’s 5th Annual Lux Luncheon

Jill Zarin has done it again! The Luxury Luncheon benefiting Thyroid Cancer Research took place this past Saturday, July 29 from 12-4pm at the Private Estate of Jill and Bobby Zarin in Southampton. Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed the luscious surroundings, gourmet food and drinks, and glamorous indulgences at the luxurious outdoor soiree. The event was held under two luxurious tents and around the Zarin’s stunning infinity pool complete with fun pool floats (think the cheery rainbow unicorn and oyster shells). Upon arrival, guests were provided with a detailed map to help them navigate the VIP beauty treatments and experiences. Spa services comprised of a 5 minute face lift, braid bar, brow bar, massages, makeup applications, and an IPL laser treatment.

Notable attendees to the Luxury Luncheon included: Ally Shapiro, RHONY‘s Luann D’Agostino, Tinsley Mortimer, Dorinda Medley, Cindy Barshop, Aviva Dresher, and Kelly Bensimon; Real Housewives of Miami Marysol Patton, Real Housewives of Atlanta Cynthia Bailey, Actress Kelly Rutherford, Millionaire Matchmaker, Former NY Yankee David Cone, Television Personality Dina Lohan, News Anchor Rita Cosby, Actor Titus Burgess, Chef Roble, “90210” Actor Tristan “Mack” Wilds, and of course, American Television Personality The Real Housewives of New York, host Jill Zarin.

This year’s event was very important to Jill Zarin as her husband Bobby Zarin’s cancer recently returned unexpectedly. The thyroid cancer returned to his brain this past November. We are praying for a full recovery and are wishing him and his family all of the best. Money raised from this year’s event is being donated to the International Thyroid Oncology Group, a 501 (c)(3) charity.

The event was organized and curated by Ticket2Events’s Brian Kelly and Sean Koski. Their work is so exceptional as they organized such a stunning and memorable event. Their professionalism in executing this event each year deserves much praise! Kelly and Koski also plan luxurious weddings, fashion, and other celebrity events. Guests at #CampZarin had the opportunity to shop designer trunk shows, enjoy beachfront water sports with Schiller Bikes, and sip craft cocktails and rosé.

Many of the new companies I learned of at the event were founded by female entrepreneurs; strong and persistent women who made their dreams a reality by doing what they love and sharing their knowledge and high quality products with the world.

My Luxury Luncheon Favorites

  1. CoFi Genuine Leather: Hailing from Denver, a unique collection of handbags, clutches, totes, boots, flats, and more. Founded by Stephanie McTigue, her pieces are designed with such personality and durability. My favorite is the Mollie Cross-Body Clutch that features two hidden interior magnetic snaps, a top zip closure, and interior zip pocket, interior slip pockets, and a detachable strap.
  2. Salts Alive: An organic, vegan, bath and body line founded by Tiffany Andersen, a Stage IV cancer survivor. After she realized her body could not longer filter toxins, she began researching rare elements that hold powerful therapeutic properties.  Her products include organically extracted mineral cell salts that help restore loss of collagen and enrich hair. The company is against animal testing and is made in the U.S.A.
  3. PortoVino Wine Purse: This was one of the most innovative accessories I have ever seen! There is a secret insulated pocket for a party pouch that holds and pours two bottles of wine. So perfect for picnics, and girls night out (and on the go). I love their navy and white striped wine purse.
  4. Birdies of a Feather: The most darling pair(s) of indoor/outdoor slippers you will ever own! Where them at home, at the cafe, and at the office. The slippers are ideal for a sophisticated, in-home party. The look, feel and quality is exceptional! I had the opportunity to try on pairs from their fall 2017 collection, which will be available on their website September 1st. Birdies co-founders Bianca and Marisa launched in November of 2015.
  5. SOOTHE Massage: an on-demand massage service that will arrive to your home or office in as little as one hour. You can also choose to rebook with the same massage therapist. I love that they offer pre-natal massages. Download their app at the iTunes store.
  6. HAMPTONS Handpoured: A local candle company based in the Hamptons that sells a diverse range of small-batch, aromatic candles. Each candle has a 40 hour burn time, made with plant-based fragrances, and vegan. My favorite scents are HAMPTON COFFEE, EAST HAMPTON, and ROASTED CORN.
  7. Destination Haus: A one-of-a-kind shopping destination in Amagansett that represents over 30 artists from around the globe. The globally curated home decor pieces encompass inspiration and influence from regions and countries around the world such as Morocco, New England, and Montauk. Founded Laureen, Kendra, and Carlyn Vellante, their store offers an expansive variety of styles in order for shoppers, and designers to curate their own personal destination. Come in for a visit as there will be events there throughout the month of August and into the autumn months.
  8. Lonvitalite: The future in facials! A family owned Australian business founded in 2009, their face, eye, and lip masks are completely cruelty free without parabens and chemicals, formulated in Germany with 100% natural plant based collagen. They have created a 24K gold & collagen eye mask, which increases the one way absorption rate to rehydrate the eye area in 10-20 minutes. The antioxidants and calling effects of the eye mask are so soothing!

Additional notables include Sania’s Brow Bar, who sculpted my eyebrows during the event; Tate Naturals; and Idalia Baudo Jewelry.

The event was catered by Carlyle off the Green. Antico Noè prepared freshly grilled panini sandwiches for guests poolside. Mini burgers with various toppings were served in the smaller tent adjacent to the driveway. There was a gourmet Burrata Cheese Bar with toppings including micro greens, roasted peppers, and marinated olives; and salads served in martini glasses. Harmless Harvest coconut water was also available to guests in coolers throughout the event.

The 5th annual luncheon also marks the first time the event became opened to the general public. Tickets were available for purchase on Eventbrite with five price points. The first two tiered prices included the much talked about VIP Gift Bag loaded with luxurious beauty products, experiences, apparel, and even more swag valued at up to $5,000! Two lesser expensive ticket price points included the non-VIP Gift Bag valued at up to $1,500. The gift bags are extraordinarily impressive! I have never seen anything like these at any event I have ever attended. You can, according to celebrity guests, compare these to the gift bags given out at the Grammy Awards, Oscars, and other prestigious award ceremonies.

Below, I invite you to look inside the non-VIP Gift Bag:

Select brands in the non-VIP gift bag were LumaRX, SmashMallow, Tate Naturals, Organic Gemini, Chef’s Cut, Enlightened, RICH Hair Care, Under the Sun, Perteh, Royall Muske, Lonvitalite, Grande Naturals, and Baja Baby, all in addition to several gift cards for beauty and spa treatments. The gorgeous metallic silver ‘East-West Bag’ is by Quilted Koala.

It’s hard not to wince when you hear the word needles, especially when it involves rolling them across your face. But … microneedling or dermarolling — a

minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that involves puncturing the skin with extremely tiny needles (or a dermaroller) to trigger your skin’s repair process and collagen production. Believe it or not this treatment is nothing new and  dermatologists have been performing this procedure for years as a treatment for facial scars. Actually, the earliest forms of microneedling were reported by acupuncturists in China, centuries ago!

How it works is straightforward: The micro dermal roller is comprised of fine, precise tiny needles that are rolled directly on the skin in a controlled motion creating micro-injuries on the skin. This in turn sends collagen and elastin production into overdrive to compensate as it heals – basically leaving your complexion tighter and plumper than it was beforehand.

This makes it an ideal method for filling in fine lines and wrinkles, thickening and plumping the skin under the eyes (thus diminishing the appearance of dark circles and bags), and even plumping lips! Micro-needling is also a very effective treatment for acne scars and discolouration since it penetrates the skin so deeply. Plus, when used in conjunction with a sheet mask soaked in serum (as it should be!), it boosts ingredient absorption up to 90%!

Here’s what you need to know before trying microneedling:

Microneedling can improve a variety of skin issues including acne scars and crepey skin. It’s a safe, chemical and laser free method that triggers new collagen production and regenerates skin cells. And if you don’t have any major concerns the least it can do is give skin a dewy and more youthful appearance. Who doesn’t want that?

Microneedling shouldn’t hurt, but… it may feel a tiny bit awkward because of the ‘prickly’ sensation during treatment. When ‘home’ microneedling the needle size should be considered, using 0.3mm or lower. In general, microneedling can be painless however when the depth of the needle is more extreme for severe skin issues for example, consulting a professional is always recommended.

If you’re concerned about recovery time, burns or discoloration that can sometimes occur post-laser treatment, microneedling therapy is an excellent alternative. Like laser treatments, it can effectively lighten discoloration, resurface texture, stimulate collagen production and plump and tighten skin. It also has the added benefit of reliability.

Although the at-home device may take longer to take effect, it will pose less risk as the microneedling devices are designed to mimic the results of the in-office treatment and work rather differently.  The at-home treatment is virtually pain-free and requires no topical numbing like surgical dermarollers used by salon professionals. They treat a wide variety of more severe skin conditions such as deep acne scars where treatments typically run between $500.00 to $1,200.00 per service.

Believe it or not you can use your microneedling device on the body, too. At-home microneedling devices also come in larger sizes, which allows you to treat larger areas—like abdomen, thighs, legs, buttocks, hands, arms, neck and back—twice as fast as you would with a smaller roller head. And don’t forget the microneedling for thinning hair or loss, and those lips!

And finally, as with any at-home beauty gadget, microneedling devices are not foolproof. Below is a step-by-step tutorial on how to use your dermaroller properly on your face or body. For best results, do this every three to five days. Also remember that since skin on the body is thicker than the skin on your face, it may take more than a few sessions before you can see visible results on your body.

Step 1: Before use, make sure your roller is disinfected using alcohol or a roller sterilizer.

Step 2: Do not force the roller into the skin but simply use mild pressure.

Step 3: Roll back and forth at the same intensity on the treatment area 5 to 10 times in each of the four directions: horizontally, vertically and diagonally.

Step 4: Following treatment, apply your sheet mask to gain maximin results and your skin will drink the product!

Longvitalite Masks

I’ve been a fan of face masks for years, but travelling with additional beauty products you need to keep your skin looking in great shape can take up too much room in your toiletries bag. This is where disposable masks are terrific; you carry one (or more) with you, use once, and throw them away. And over the years the range of more sophisticated products has grown. This is where the Australian brand Lonvitalite excels. Established in 2009, it specialises in making serum infused face, eye and lip masks which are completely cruelty free without parabens or nasty chemicals, and formulated in Germany with 100 per cent natural plant based collagen. Better still its range of masks is pretty diverse, so there is something to suit all skin types, and any skin in need of hydration to pigmentation taming and skin brightening. So what’s on offer? There are seven masks in all which you can buy to trial in one bundle for $42.00 with a rrp $72.00 or packs of five individually sealed masks (from www.lonvitalite.com.au). The lineup includes the S1 Lightening & Brightening Silk Sheet Face Mask, the S3 Collagen & Red Wine Silk Sheet Face Mask, the C4 Coconut Milk Hydrating & Nourishing Face Mask, the C5 Coffee Anti-Fatigue Face Mask, the C6 Green Tea Antioxidant Face Mask, the C7 Collagen & Gold Lip Mask, and the 24K Gold & Collagen Eye Mask.

Each mask does a different job or fixes a specific skin issue. The S1 Lightening & Brightening Silk Sheet Face Mask, for example, helps to reduce visibility of pigmentation as a result pregnancy, shifting hormones, or sun exposure, and contains vitamin C to brighten the skin, while reducing and fading damage caused by exposure to UVA and UVB. The S3 Collagen & Red Wine Silk Sheet Face Mask supplies collagen to improve skin luster, fade wrinkles, and promote the regeneration of damaged cells, while also providing calm and soothing relief to the skin from over exposure to the sun, reducing inflammation from sun burn; something which can happen all too often on holiday. Next there’s the C4 Coconut Milk Hydrating & Nourishing Face Mask, which uses coconut oil to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin to strengthen the underlying layers, while also moisturising, relieving and preventing dryness, flaking and sagging of the skin, as well as fading age spots. The C5 Coffee Anti-Fatigue Face Mask is rich in vitamins and minerals which aim to invigorate fatigued skin, while the C6 Green Tea Antioxidant Face Mask improves skin clarity. And finally, especially for lips and eyes, the C7 Collagen & Gold Lip Mask replenishes lips with natural, plant based collage to leave them hydrated and plump, while the 24K Gold & Collagen Eye Mask is the ultimate boost for the under eye area.

Using Lonvitalite masks is easy. All you have to do is wash your face and pat dry, open the sachet of the mask of your choice, remove the outer layer of silk sheet, and apply mask to your face, eye area or lips smoothing it evenly into place. Depending on which mask you use, you will leave it on for around 20-30 minutes, relaxing as the mask does its work; then remove, and pat any excess product into your skin. If you want a cooling home facial you can refrigerate the masks before use, or if you prefer something warmer, place the opened sachet into warm water for a few minutes instead. Lonvitalite recommends starting an initial program of daily facials for five days, which you can initiate before you hit the road, then using the masks once or twice a week depending on your needs. All the masks deliver results, but in testing a favourite was the S1 Lightening and Brightening Silk Sheet Face Mask which really gave my skin a quick and visible boost. And who doesn’t want that?
